The Companion is divided into four sections: American-Jewish Fiction; British Jewish Fiction; Other Anglophone Jewish Fiction; and Transatlantic, Transnational and Transethnic Connections. The 31 essays discuss established post-war American-Jewish novelists, including Saul Bellow, Philip Roth, Norman Mailer, Bernard Malamud, Joseph Heller, Grace Paley and Cynthia Ozick, as well as contemporary novelists such as Michael Chabon, Jonathan Safran Foer and Nicole Krauss. Other chapters discuss the British-Jewish authors Bernice Rubens, Linda Grant, Jenny Diski, Howard Jacobson, Will Self and David Baddiel or explore important Jewish Anglophone authors from other countries: the Canadians Mordecai Richler and Anne Michaels; the Nobel-Prize-winning South African Nadine Gordimer; and the Australian Elliot Perlman.
